The sun rises, bleeding a new day
shedding the cool comfort of a dark life
and still he lives a dream, a lie.

He, the nemesis of a broken spirited
wounded bird of innocent design.

Feeding off the regret of lost time.
Surrounded by the masked façade
of deception and selfish needs.

He grows fat from the feast
he finds in the unknowing.
His narcissism knows no bounds.

The colors of the day run
mixing with his aura
twisting the mind into believing

he is a god to be worshipped,
for his strength, his character,
his Nordic looks.

But even the mirror of his reflection is distorted
He sees not what he really is
Only what he wants to be

He is the beast that rides on the back
of the ignorant, the weak, the believers,
and the ones that wish not truth to see.

Susan, your words once again ask me to take time out and ponder. So, I am tucking this piece into my library! So well done.

WOW! there is SO much within this....

wonderfully said Susan...

You’re thinkin so complicated
I’ve had it all up to here
But it’s so overrated
Love and hate it
you’re so jaded
And I’m the one that jaded
you

Sounds as though he should get a better mirror! Gosh, he certainly has an inflated vision of his appeal and importance! Methinks he be touched!

Stay clear of that one, Dear Susan! ~ for you are of "innocent design"!

This reminds me of a very powerful person that I despise;
Though he doesn't have a Nordic look (I would call it squirrelish..)
It probably is'nt about him....But who ever it is, it is still a powerful poem.

Well done, Susan

Thank you all muchly for the replies...

it made me very happy to see the diversity of how each reader was tapped...

Let me clarify what I was thinking when I wrote it...

It wasn't about any particular "he" but rather about making a political statement of sorts and how the beast of politics may have an adverse affect on humanity.

But I was hoping each reader would read it a different way...

After reading your response, I was thinking....
you know, Susan, there are people in every day life, though, just like this.....
they have the look, the talk, the personality to
win over almost anyone. And, all their talk is just that...talk!

I think we all have known someone like this at some
time or another in our lives. And if not, will before
our life is over. Unless we are very sheltered
from the people of the world. And that usually doesn't happen.

This was a very good write, Susan. It made people
think and that's always a good thing.
Hugs,
