Past the Time of Goodbye

It was only last year
When the crease formed
Only one day   an hour perhaps
Where it started slipping away

No time   so much time
The other side cannot be contained
Floundering on the ridge
Slip soft cool remain
So how am I to mark the way
When all I want is for you to stay
Stay past the time of goodbye

Some days there is time
Like the slow opening of a sunflower
And others  when the sun sets as it rises
When all is slipping
I listen to the groan of dirt
The sweet lifting in fast forward
Of something living wanting sun
I can hear it from the canvas I packed
Like a water balloon it wrestles with my shoulder
or curls with liquid words at my feet
While I keep watch   vigilant and a hero
I don’t sleep

Wanting empty space and time
To throw the arrow of my words
(pierce something with perfect insight)
Attach it to a tree that knows I am only me
And just realize that I can in the end

Fly   you see?

You did both yourself, and Reb, proud. All you've ever written are keepers, sissie...

Ah, Martie, did I ever mention that I'm proud just to know you? Your strength is showing here, and so is your loving heart. That's about as good a combination as there is. You'll see it as weakness, I know...but truly it's anything but weakness that I see, reading these words.

"When all is slipping
I listen to the groan of dirt
The sweet lifting in fast forward
Of something living wanting sun"

This is awesome and familiar at the same time...I feel this almost daily, as I spread the roots of plants into the ground...

When my mind is dislocated from what sources from the earth, by eartly troubles..work schedules, gas prices, broken machinery...

Is when I listen for the "groan of dirt", the low, sweet moan as roots push into it ....how lovely the symphony, how small I am in the universe, unimportant compared to roots expanding..and the expanding of leaves in "want of sun..." wishing them to "stay past the time of goodbye"

A beautiful poem, Martie
And Thanks, LR

Martie, I love that photo of you! You look so sweet and pretty and young and fresh ~ and your spirit shines through!

Now, as for your poem ~ I felt it to my very core. As per usual, there are always lines that I find memorable in your poetry. The following ones are now locked in my mind ~ "I listen to the groan of dirt
The sweet lifting in fast forward". That is sheer poetry ~ and unforgetable. You truly are a creative writer!

Hugs with love,
Linda

I sure agree with Karilea, all of yours are keepers, and do you realize I am up to the 3rd volume of printed poems of yours on my bookshelf?     Love this Martie, as usual, your words move me like no one else's to feel, think, and admiration.

I've missed reading you Martie-girl...
there is so much to be learned from your verse and insight.

Im not asking for a moment, all I want is time
I want to take this lonely, but Ive no place to be
so baby let me breathe you in and take you into me

Marti

The quality of you is one thing I want to say aloud and how high it is.

The quality of your words often didn't just give an idea, it gave me the tiger person and that is something I have only just understood

Take care sweetheart

Martie....you touched on so many emotions in this one...I felt tears in the being of sadness, but then...you, being the angel you are, lifted that and left me with a feeling of so much light and love.  Beautiful write....shelved.   ....jo

Martie - I'm sorry I missed this one when it was posted.  It's so very beautiful - "the groan of dirt" - yes, I can understand that and how we all would wish for "past the time of goodbye".  Take care, lovely lady.

Martie you are indeed priceless but not flightless.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
