You Were to Me

You are to me
As I dreamed you to be
Even as the sun burned into me desire
A thorn shaded from me that portion of my heart
Where silver beads and tear drops
Lay across the eyelids of the living
Sleepwalking throughout the day
Living only until they finally sleep
Back to the dirt and thoughts
Of makers, writers and dreamers
Not unlike myself
When I dreamed you to be
Even before the moon undressed you from fluffy clouds
To the shame of blushing stars
And the virgin body of sinful hands
That massaged you out of nothingness
And there you quietly stood, breathlessly
As if waiting for Prometheus’s kiss
Or the keys to Pandora ’s Box
Answers whispered from mothers and the fantasies of girlfriends
White lies flaking from the heads of drug abusers
A natural high within your own box
A cardboard sign made out of hopes
Reading “Will Love For Anything”
Because you are to me
What I dreamed you to be
Salvation from the fields of forefathers
But not before enough cotton is picked
To make you the most beautiful dress
Pin pricks tattoo my fingers
Bright red the rain that falls
The color of love and hate
Your eyes bloodshot from staying awake
Afraid you will never awake from my dream
Take solace in my sweat and tears
Shoveling coals in the furnace of fear
Warming my cause to your purpose
To make me whole and a part of the hole
That all dead souls are cast into
Plainly written on tombstones are the words…
“And she died a dutiful wife”
Forever and the day after eternity…
But still you will remain a spot,
On the blemished pillow beside me
A product of bleach and dreams
Still wet from the kiss of tomorrow’s dew
The reasons sewn into the fabrics of your Creator’s dreams
Forever fearing the glare of Medusa’s stare
A sign of eternities gentle swing of the balance
Being struck by the arrows of Eros
Grey vipers and red Asps
In the hands of Herakle’s sorrowed plight
Lovingly embracing my heart to a stop
A charmer I believed myself to be
But not a charmer of sins
No apples, no gardeners
Before the eve was yet to smile
I opened that box myself
Inhaling cinnamon and violet perfumes
Apples rolling down steps
As they walked upstairs---
Two reflections of past selves
Running to catch the train to tomorrow
I am saddened by what they will find
The present of what I have become
The truth was always written in her smile
A faint light amongst the stars
What I dreamed her to be
I am him
Created to tame the beast
Rooms with no doors
Hearts with no keys
Soul in confinement
Fears, pains, and passions
Trapped in memories and sleep
My escape
Her escape
Our escape
To the next second
The next minute
The next hour
The next day
The next breath
The next eternity
Of dreams and future tears
What I dreamed me to be.

Marcel

Powerful emotions poured this page Keith.
Very excellent lines, descriptions painted by the heart.

Marcel~
You move me through your words ... so gentle ... so REAL~

'Even before the moon undressed you from fluffy clouds
To the shame of blushing stars'

The above ... poetry in and by itself~

GORGEOUS lines sprinkled throughout the entire penning~

powerfully and realistically looking back on moments well dressed in spiritual contact...if only for a brief moment, sometimes those moments are life's refuge and reminder, that life is indeed Good.

wonderfully written

omg Keith, this is so moving
and touching.

  Delightful to read
as eyes move down the page with rhyme entwined within...

Nicely done.  Brava!

and if I touch the screen in just the right way...
I will FEEL within my bone's marrow,
just a tiny bit of what this write is all about
*touching the screen*
