My cupped hands tingled in ecstasy as they dipped willingly
into the icy stream high in the mountains.

Pristine, or so it did seem, offering a moment of refreshment
to a city beleaguered soul.
Above me, hovering in the trees,
raucous ravens jeered at me, screamed
about the rights, the rites,
the endless writes of the beauty of nature.

I submerged myself, momentarily,
letting the current moment carry me away.
When I resurfaced, I found myself
floating downstream, enjoying the ride
even as my bones and muscles cried with pain
from the sudden degrees of change,
and before I could catch my breath I saw

~The rapids~

which way to go? Left or right it must be,
for the middle pathway held more treachery
and so I headed left (no surprises here)
and took my chances along the edges,
knowing full well that hidden dangers lie in wait for me.
Somewhere downstream, I found my ground,
pulled myself up safely for a while and realized
I had not capsized.
But then I looked up and saw those same ravens
staring down at me

~Demanding accountability~

for barely a mile downstream remains
the entrance to the ‘wilderness park’
with miles of traffic blanketing the asphalt,
engines running constantly with AC’s roaring,
each metallic coffin filled with hungry city slaves
awaiting their encounter with

~NATURE~

And all I could do was sputter and stutter

~an apology~

for the ignorance, the blatant blasphemy
of mankind’s version of worshipping

~the wilderness~

You've seen them, too, huh???  I am stumped and stuttering trying to come up with a response to this one....besides the usual "this is great" stuff.  Kacy, all I can say, is you really got me to thinking.

And...seriousness aside, hehehe, no suprise you went left.   ......jo

LOL, 'the left' reference...well, I had to lighten it up just a bit. Glad you got a small chuckle with that. Thanks for reading, Jo.

Midnitesun...This is poetry as it should be written. I had too hold my breath for awhile, while we were going over the rapids.
Thanks for sharing your journey with us...Paul

a beauty to behold ...

   and wishing of Raven's nevermore.

This is a fine example of
the fresh air which you breathe
into your words, and the readers minds.

                         excellent!!
