It wasn’t his words...
For they were calm compared
to that which the eyes said.
A winter’s frost in summer cloak,
worn stiff as starch.

It wasn’t his touch, cool yet too
soft...the limp touch of his hand
saying so much...feeling so
little.

No, it wasn’t....not then, nor now,
for the lily had danced one last time
and the wilted frond of fern stoops
low...lower...lower than anything
a mind should feel....as yet another
wave washes the shore...and only
the prints of one remain...as fingers
lightly brush and fall into the fold
of summer’s cloth on a winter’s
eve...
