As I lay last night in bed,
I wrote a poem in my head,
With perfect meter; perfect rhyme,
An ode supreme; a verse sublime.

Accolades all would confer,
I knew I had a pullitzer,
Retirement to a life of leisure,
With my literary poetic treasure.

I jumped from bed at crack of dawn,
O’ how the people they would fawn,
Grabbed my pen with much temerity,
To memoralize my posterity.

On blank page no words appeared,
From my mind, ode disappeared,
I must admit a right strong irk,
Oh well, that’s life, it’s off to work.

You just wrote MY POEM!!  I know this feeling so well.  Loved the humor you can put in with the truth of it.

Tim...Very much enjoyed...Paul

I once woke up at 1 AM with a poem in my mind about my 2 granddaughters that I had been trying to write for about 2 months. It just came to me while I was sleeping. I woke up and grabbed my pin and started writing, it took about 15 minutes to write it

Bravo!  Bravo!  I've been there so many times I've lost count.
