Effigy

Lifeless like the statues, upon this war-worn hill,
No human heart, no aching soul.
No dreams to ponder, no hopes to fulfill.
No time to tell, no life to know.

Lifeless like the dead, under this hollow ground,
No wind through thy hair, no oxygen in thy lung.
No blood to flow, no pulse to pound.
No thought in thy head, no word on thy tongue.

Lifeless like the future, which may never come,
Lifeless like your fingers, which will never bend again,
Lifeless like your body, which will always be numb.
Lifeless like your conscious, tainted with sin.

Your withered mind like a flag upon this post,
Living as a forgotten banshee.
My arid eyes staring through your ghost,
Living in effigy…

There will be no drowning
of my soul or me~

Is this about somebody alive who is dead - or somebody dead who is alive?  I think the former.  I knew somebody like that, my stepmother, to be exact.  I relate to your very effective poem.  Especially the ending was very well done.  The truth of it is very sad, though.

Yes it is about someone alive who is dead or dead to me at least. This is one of my darker poems but I think it makes a point. It is partially about my dad and partially about my lost childhood. Yes, it is a little sad but it is true.

Oh My . . . this is amazing writing.

Am so sorry I missed it, glad I found it.

I do know this quite well, myself.
