Oh, to sleep to dream
of completion,
genesis ascending
from each clavicle.

The beginnings of flight.

Towering two feet above my crown
and one foot above the ground,
my spirit would no longer suffer
the torture of good versus evil.

They would be glorious, my wings.

Perhaps, they will serve
to thaw my frame when I become chilled,
meld into arms when I am lonely,
and turn, quick and sharp
if crossed, to smite one
who did not respect their beauty.

Oh, to sleep to dream
within the room of my son.
I collect his feathers,
delicately lain across his nightstand.
Plumed obsidian, magnificient.
As that of a raven.

We picked them together, planning to create a headdress.

but now,
I place them upon his own back
heeding the fate of Icarus',
I stand sentinal, mesmerized
by his sprouts of tufted down.

And before dawn,
we search for a willow tree
to nest in, perhaps -
away from the bloodstains
and the stench of the city.

Our hands clasped
as we take flight.

Together.

You have the amazing ability to send tiny little shock waves through all four of my bodies (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual) whenever I read your poetry. This poem was no exception.

"They would be glorious, my wings." ~ Dear Sue, they ARE glorious!

Full of imagery and a true enjoyment to read. Wings!

Well she’s walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that’s running round
Butterflies and zebras
And moonbeams and fairy tales
That’s all she ever thinks about
Riding with the wind.

There is a feel of Shakespeare here...''to sleep..perchance to dream''....or is it just me ..whatever... it is a fine poem, delicate as only a mother could write about her son...thank you..

Linda, WOW - now that really made me feel as if I make a difference, thank you

Donna - sheesh then why do I feel like my feet are planted in cement?  *smile*

ahhh Kacy, magical, I like that - you inspired me btw.

Thanks JC!

aww Dix, you know I try to get in here and read . . . I miss reading you too!

Michele, heh . . . yes, he sure would . . .
that really made me smile.

Eddie - LOL - he is going to fly way higher than I ever imagined, thanks to all of you for showing ME how to flap my wings.

soulfisher - that was so very kind and sweet - thank you so much for that.

Vic - ahahaha - man, that child is doing circles around the birds . . . I have always loved that graphic.

Phil, yes, you know I wrote this, then googled the first line because it sounded way too familiar to me too - I thought maybe Poe . . . but yes, thank you for pointing that out to me, it sounded as if it had already been used.

Lee?  You ARE life . . . thank you.

Kari?  Now I was waiting for someone to do that and LOL - those are the 2 EXACT sites I looked up myself to make sure I was getting it right - wanted to make the whole thing feel billowy.  Plus the one site was cool, I have never SEEN cotton like that (Yankee) - the most we get regarding cotton is already hanging on a rack . . . *grin*

Thanks so much guys for this and for you guys, Ed actually fixed the format for me, which I would love to post - because it was lagging and well, you know him . . . born editor . . . the new version is much nicer to read.

Thanks guys, this one was a toughie - I was actually watching my birdfeeder - wishing I could just turn into a bird and GO . . . and thought maybe if I dreamt hard enough, it just might happen.

you guys are amazing, never fail to pick me up from the ground, and for that - I am eternally grateful.

you amaze with your ability to make someone feel your words....

In your light I learn how to love
In your beauty how to make poems
You dance inside my chest where
no one sees you and that sight becomes this art

It sure looks to me that dream of yours came true.         Now this was beyond a whisperling's winged word, it had a sort of wiccan wisdom feel to it.  You realize i hope that you had those wings all along, but just needed a flight plan from some of us old birds. Remember, having wings is a state of mind!

Suzie, that truly was beautiful - I kept it to put behind a picture in the house, and you know that is a good thing for only the best grace my walls to go to the next generation.

Sue....I dream of having wings all the time...so, I really wish I had written this treasure.  I know I have enough feathers to make at least one wing, now I just need a little magic.  Thank you for this lovely poem.

And it is, after all, a fine place to be.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Lauren:  ha!  amaze you?  Oh, that is a compliment indeed.

Sharon?  this?  Immortalized?
*grin*  I am more than honored,
sheesh you should let me fix it a bit.
And I mean actual wings, like a birdie.
I am grateful to you for seeing that.

Martie, you are the epitome of flight, but I know what you mean.
You have enough angels by your side, you must see feathers all over your house!

Larry,  it is, isnt it?  Thank you.

Thanks guys.

Your words tell beautifully how wonderful is the flight that both of you share...Feelings of love pour freely from your words and they are beautiful indeed...*big hugs*
