When I was but a boy
I dreamed a many dream
One of which was to fly

I would take off sky high
A rocket of humanity
Fast and unhindered

Reaching places only eagles could go
Where adult desires always fell short
But a mere child’s hope took flight

Now I wish to dream again
I close my eyes tight
Only to see darkness looking back

I wonder what is wrong
I squeeze my eyes harder blocking all sight
A Depth of nothing appears

Blackness so deep it mutes even sound
Instead of the sky I find the unknown
My faith is shaken for a brief moment

Then I hear my child’s voice and in that sound
I know I am free to fly
Because there is no such thing as darkness without light

This is dedicated to my sons who bring me hope of a better tomorrow

Children bring their Light into this world when they are born. They lighten and brighten our days! Your sons got you reconnected to your own.

I enjoyed the contrasting yin and yang of this poem and the up-lifting ending.

btw this line was exceptionally powerful! ~ "Blackness so deep it mutes even sound"

Love & Light,
Linda

you are reading my mind, my son is my angel, without him, there would be no light.

so far this name doesn't show up on the MSNBC 'safe' list or any Red Cross registered shelter list...
but that doesn't mean the family isn't OK

hoping for the best, for you Thomas, and your family

Well, from all the reading I've done at the Sun Herald these past few days, and the online message forums, I can say that you must be one very very busy man. I was told by a lady in Richmond, VA whom I just met online a few days ago, that she had heard that all the active duty police officers and firefighters of Biloxi were alive and well, and out there working round the clock. I also heard that perhaps as many as 25 of you lost your homes. I was so sorry to hear that news!
We will be so happy to hear from you when you return. Please know that our hearts and best wishes are with all of you in the Gulf Coast!

May we always be able to dream and to fly ... so that we acquire the ability to step safely out of darkness. Your words are very beautiful.

Praying that you and your family, dear Tom, are safe and well, looking forward to a bright future.

Sending much love,
Margherita

Hey Thomas, and others, thought you might enjoy reading this info from a Kentucky newspaper:

BASIC TRAINING CLASS 364 RAISES MONEY FOR Mississippi RELIEF EFFORT
Press Release Date: Friday, September 02, 2005
Contact Information: Abbie Darst, (859) 622-6453, (859) 358-8520
RICHMOND, Ky. –In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the whole nation is keeping a close eye on the situation in Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama. However, Basic Training Class No. 364 at the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training is turning its concern into action.
These newest members of Kentucky’s law enforcement community have come together to raise funds for the rescue and disaster relief efforts of the Biloxi (Miss.) Police Department. Each DOCJT Basic Training class participates in a community service project as part of the requirements for graduation from the academy. Class 364 chose to focus its community project on supporting the need for supplies and funds for fellow officers in Biloxi, Miss. and their families, following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

“We are very pleased with the level of character and compassion shown by the members of Class 364 by taking on such an initiative,” said Horace Johnson, director of DOCJT’s Training Operations Division. “Law enforcement is all about serving community and this class has gone above and beyond the call of duty by extending their service to the needs of families and local law enforcement in Biloxi.”

Class 364 is currently collecting donations to send to the Biloxi Police Department and encourages local citizens here in Kentucky to participate.

“These guys need our help,” said Scott Conrad of the Georgetown Police Department and class leader for Basic Class 364. “We want to be able to help out our fellow officers in a way that will impact them. It is part of our duty. Who else do they have to look to in their time of need?”

*PS, it was Officer Castillo's wife Amy who let those of us know in a Sun Herald forum, that all Biloxi officers were accounted for, and working very long shifts. That info came in a post from a lady in Richmond, VA who had asked a general Q about how to help the police. Talk about an extended family!

being a deputy I have resources unavailable to others and I used them this morning….I just got off the phone with Tom at the police office in Biloxi…he and his family are safe…he is struggling to keep up as he is doing overtime with the damage done there and lack of manpower…he has no internet access at the moment…I told him how concerned about he and his family we all were at pip since no one had heard from him…he told me he still has a smile on his face and he was ok…I told him I would tell you that…he will be back as soon as the net is back up

THANK YOU so much, Helen! I was hoping that you might be able to find out something. I had a couple of phone numbers to call in Biloxi, but hesitated adding my call to the already overloaded circuits.
That is wonderful news, too, that he is still smiling.
This forum is so cool when it comes to keeping people connected.
THANKS, Ron.
