Paradise Found

~ Linda L. Dowd ~

In misty gloaming of bonnie brae,
A lad with a fife and a drum,
Hailed his love for a lovely lass,
Of them all, she was the plum.

O’er hill and dale he searched for her,
This maiden beyond compare.
She stirred his blood like no other had,
Of them all, she was most fair.

One glorious morn at the break of day,
He found her by shore of the loch,
Singing so sadly of love she had lost,
As tears soaked her emerald frock.

Gold rays of sun lit up her form,
Dresden skin was as fair as milk.
Eyes reflected the blue of the skies,
And her hair was of auburn silk.

She heard the sound of the beating drum,
Followed by the trill of the fife.
Her sadness left with the sight of the lad,
For she knew he’d be part of her life.

He knelt and spoke before maiden fair,
Recounting each search at cock's crow.
How he’d spied her once on the bonnie brae,
And had searched since that mome of ago.

Her cheeks flushed the rosiest pink,
The sparkle returned to her eyes.
He swept her up and twirled her about,
For in her he had found paradise.

In misty gloaming of bonnie brae,
A lad with a fife and a drum,
Hailed his love for a lovely lass,
Of them all, she was the plum.

Earth Angel,

Enjoyed this a bunch!  No exaggeration, paradise found!  Your skill in diversity delights me--never do I know what you'll write about next, but I know it will be captivating and well written!   Couldn't wait to get to the happy ending!

Linda this is just so beautiful!
I thought I was in Brigadoon for a few minutes...
This is a first class keeper!!
~Hugs & Smiles, Nancy~

Something tugs at me, I've no doubt of that.
Something from the sea, whichever one I'm near.
When I stray too far from beachland, it calls me back

Enchanting One ~

Oh, I never thought of that ~ but yes, it does have a Brigadoonish feel to it! I loved that movie!

As you know, whenever a poem of mine is deemed a keeper, it adds more ink to my well!

Hope ~

I would love to visit Scotland! I am of Scottish and Irish blood lines, but I have never been to the British Isles. My BF is from Nottingham, England and he wants to give me the grand tour in the not too distant future! I can hear the bagpipes already!

Thank you for your thoughtful reply!

Warm hug and a smile,
Linda

Linda if you had used more vernacular you may have been close to the best scottish poet himself..Robbie Burns...''my love is like a red red rose..that newly blooms in june..''...

try here www.electricscotland.com/burns/redrose.html

Quite excelleant writing.... enjoyed the read ..thank you...

Dear Rose of Gold ~

Oh, my! I got goosebumps reading Robbie Burns poem! Thank you for the link!

Two of my great great great great great grandfathers (the son of the one married the daughter of the other)were very good friends of his and they were pall bearers at his funeral.

Sometimes when I am writing I have the strangest feeling that I am not alone! lol

Another curious note, the poet Robert Service ~ when he was a very young man ~ attended my great great grandfather's funeral while he was visiting Scotland.

Thank you so much for the flattering and thought-full reply!

Love & Poet Light,
Linda

A beautiful, romantic poem, Linda

"She heard the sound of the beating drum,
Followed by the trill of the fife.
Her sadness left with the sight of the lad,
For she knew he’d be part of her life."

The "beating drum" is very effective here, a form of audible poetry, the reader feels the thump of stick on skin, and hears the "trill of fife... which mounts the tension...an augury of things to come.

A very nice poem.... Please accept my afterthought....

In Xanadu (at last) the two remeet,
He from fife and drum released;
She in strong arms, twirled about-
Lips on lips
The taste of ripe-sweet plums...

Linda this is breathtaking....

Paradise should always feel like this....

In your light I learn how to love
In your beauty how to make poems
You dance inside my chest where
no one sees you and that sight becomes this art

Hi, Sweetums! As do you, I like happy endings! If only all love stories were to end in such a manner! Oh, well, at least we as poets can write happy story tale endings!

For in her he had found paradise.

Words that ring in my heart

I love this poem

Thank you! Romance is good for the spirit. Whether we read about it or experience it ourselves. Mind you, experiencing it first hand is definitely better, is it not!
