It was your arms
That reached to hold me
Folding me to your heart
As I slipped from shock
Into the devastation
Of knowing my mother was gone.

Now, another storm of grief
Hovers on the horizon
Waiting patiently
For numb to lessen.
Soon, keening tears
Will river down my face
And I'll wail
Against the gale
Of missing you.

But today the sun shines
As brightly as your smile,
The waves whisper
Echoes of your laughter
And the gentle breeze
That lifts you away
Leaves tender memories
That cannot be erased
By unanswered questions.

It was your arms
That reached to hold me.
Please know that I will hold you
Forever in my heart.

~ and may that hold true for you always, Dear Ruth.

Beautifully written in your time of grief.

Sending you a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, and arms to comfort you.

Another loss for you....when-when-when will they stop? You share this so poignantly, that I feel she was my beloved friend too, not just someone I read about in a poem somewhere....but then, your poems do that so often and so well I've come to expect it.

Suthern,

I was touched by your poem as I have recently lost someone very, very, close to me.

"But today the sun shines
As brightly as your smile,
The waves whisper
Echoes of your laughter
And the gentle breeze
That lifts you away
Leaves tender memories
That cannot be erased
By unanswered questions.

It was your arms
That reached to hold me."

These last two lines particularly had great impact. To understand that those arms will be missed

"Waiting patiently
For numb to lessen.
Soon, keening tears
Will river down my face
And I'll wail
Against the gale
Of missing you."

but,

"Please know that I will hold you
Forever in my heart."

Blessings to you, I send you my sympathies and wish you well. "We can only measure grief in terms of love forever lost."

Sincerely with many
SG

I owe you all more gratitude than I have words to express. All those years ago, Candy was the one who held this teenaged girl as she grew old in an instant... Yesterday, I held her daughter and granddaughter as we scattered Candy's ashes and tossed roses into the waves. I am thankful for every hour she shared our lives.

Thank you so very much!!

And SG... I am so sorry for your loss...

Well now, I have never read more tender words of a mother recalled. And gentle indeed is the heart of you both. I feel warm just from the glow of your memory. So very nicely done dear lady. Peace.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Larry: Your timing is perfect, dear friend... Today is my mother's birthday... and yes... I miss both her and Candy... woke thinking of them both. *S* Thank you!!!

StevenS: Thank you so much... I appreciate you finding beauty in this. *S*

inkedgoddess: Thank you, kind lady... I talked with Candy's daughter last night... trying to help her cope with another loss that's looming over us all... grief seems to have moved in to stay... a most unwelcome companion. *S*

Young lady, you have the warmest of hearts. I'm glad as glad that this came back up for us, so everyone can see it expressed. When this appeared for the first time, I only saw the pain coming for you yet another time. Now I see the love.
