a hoot, you are
in nearby tree

laughing at me
for my constant fantasy

for I seek the night
to shade the daylight,
yet tremble as a frightened child
from an unknown noise in the wild

beguiled, I tripped over bright starlight
while the watchful gaze of a moonbeam
caught me, straightened my crookedness,
set me back on a linear path momentarily,
only to nudge me gently off said pathway
to meander amongst the myriad of truths
that lay alongside the edges of reality

a hoot,  you are
my muse,
disguised in a wise
flight of feathered fancy
