Waters the color, brush downward goes;
She retrogresses a decade to his kindergarten clothes.
London Bridge and Goose, Duck, Duck
  Paints and flowers, a visiting fire truck

Back to work;  mustn’t cry.
  She paints from darkest to lightest sky.
Gives root the tree, on branch a swing,
Pushes him gently, gives him sky to wing
among clouds, he kicks the sky

With stethoscope around his neck,
   He flips rubber eggs in a frying pan
     and his actions singingly say,
“Going to grow up some day.  Yep! Soon I’ll be a ”
    She knows he’ll become a man.
Watches his growth with hope

An inventor, builder, an astronaut?
A pilot, a scientist…
Probably.  Probably, yes.
A track star?
No, basketball!
(Baseball, just a guess.)

As he grew and grade levels, too,
      distance caused them naturally to depart,
But memories held by spirit would never
    leave his teacher's heart.

Back to work, mustn’t cry;
Foreground has dried, the wet on dry.
Flick of wrist, flower grown.

A single flower
for her Borrowed Child.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Written in memory of a little boy who loved grasshoppers, electricity, a song, and a good laugh.
He was an artist, a sculptor, kindergarten diplomat, and a soldier.  The list goes on...  Indeed, he grew up to be quite a man!)
Foreground has dried, the wet on dry;
With her brush, a flick of her wrist,
    a flower and poem she gives lost child.
Midnitesun, Sunshine,
    I appreciate your kindness.  He was such a special young man-it is hard for me to understand why such things happen.  Still am in shock.  As lively as he was, I figured he'd outlive me by a long shot!
   Again, thank you.
hugging you, for I do understand
This left me remembering a former student, a delightful 7 year old with an animated flashy smile...who playfully rode her bike down the driveway, into the street, expecting that van to stop...
Karina's tree still stands in the schoolyard, filling the air with memories.
Midnitesun,
   You DO understand; oh, those flashy smiles.  Yes!  It sounds as if you knew him, too!  I suppose they become our teachers, eh?
   Thanks for the hug; I needed it. Smile sent.
They do....and I've found that tear can come at the darndest times.....
.....but why volleyball, after all those other sports I cheered him through.....why Goa Trance for this one, after the music lessons and albums in the home? I dunno, and I love both, thanks to them!
    leave his teacher's heart.
And you've proved that beautifully with this great write... wringing our hearts with wondering WHY. Excellent write!!
"A single flower
for her Borrowed Child."
~ and for a time too short, he was blessed with a "Borrowed Mom".
My daughter is a teacher and I understand that the caring for her students doesn't necessarily end with the closing of the school year.
Teachers with loving hearts such as yours, are indeed Light Workers.
Love & Teacher Light,
Ratleader,
   At the darndest times...the tear.  You're sure right about that!  Take care and enjoy the volleyball!
suthern,
   "Why?" is my favorite question.  Sorry to wring out those hearts, but it sure felt good to wring out mine.  Thanks for your sweet response.
Serenity,
   I remember how comfortable my own felt on the hip and how the tiny foot could fit in my hand!  But there are advantages now--no midnight feedings!  That's good!  I appreciate your comment.  I had forgotten about the hip-hold while doing chores with the other hand!
Earth Angel,
   If your daughter is anything like you, she'll be a teacher who the kids won't forget!  "A borrowed mom?"    Hm...  Do you suppose I could hire the little rascals out to do some housework?  That'd be nice!   You are right; it is very difficult for most teachers to leave school at school.  I have been found guilty of talking in my sleep to my students!  They make for the most interesting dreams/maybe, nightmares at times!  (JUst kidding mostly...however, I do have one recurring nightmare yearly.  It happens like clockwork the night before the first day of school.  I dream that I read the school schedule wrong, consequently, I don't show up for work.  Meanwhile, the kids are swinging from the lights!   Needless to say, that dream doesn't pan out too well!)  BTW, thanks for your kind remarks.
lol at that clock dream reply, and think there are many who've had a similar one
and we shall remember all of them, even the ones who swing from the lights
especially them
