It’s sad to think we’ll only be
A fond and fading memory
That comes to visit now and then
On days we think of “way back when”

When we were young and full of life
And I took you to be my wife
And you took me be the man
To keep you for the life we planned

But youth has ways of turning fate
And now, for us, it is too late
The hands of time have spun too long
And left you there where you belong

While I must wander all alone
Seeking, weary to the bone
To try and find a love as sweet
With anyone that I might meet

So think of me in quiet times
Remember all my loving rhymes
And know that you will always be
The one and only love for me.
