In a state of disrepair...

Venenum attemperatum

Venenum attemperatum education is.
An unnoticed permeation
into the marrow and sinew;
the flex and bone of arrogance
grow to the muscle of bitterness.

In this realm of certain space
Shakespeare is just a vulgar hack
not worthy of holding Marlow’s hat.
All this I know because it’s true.
Oh, he ripped of Francis Bacon too

Those renaissance men, so renowned
For astronomic theory others found.
Copernicus read Aristotle, who referred
in text, to Aristarchus. Copernicus deferred
to his Solar madness.

Newton’s works on light are just the same
written by Bacon but signed with his name.
His Universal Science is all but forgot
Eroded by “genius” which stole from his pot,
taken piecemeal to fill out their lack.

Religion and faith are all interwoven
Tenets of one are found in the rest
Some say “borrowed”, others stolen
All discard the worst and keep the best.
One acknowledges Muslim science.

Venenum attemperatum education is.
Swelling in reservoirs under the skin
Breaking out to offer intemperate opinion
And unwanted officious diatribe
Because you know.

None utters that you are not
what you know
But that which you conclude

Not just recitation by rote
But the reinvention of the wheel
Spoke by spoke.

My favourite slow acting poison.

***I suck at Latin, but I think I have it right if not someone tell me!***

"And the sun went down, and the stars came out far over the summer sea,
But never a moment ceased the fight of the one and the fifty-three."

Venenum-Latin poison, medicine...a drug

An English word- Attemperation
The act of attempering or regulating. (n.).

"Venenum attemperatum education is."

Fits the poem, as education is the regulating of thought and thought processes, a sort of mind drug....

Down through the layers of this, I find myself nodding, as I see all genious is built on genious that came before...

And it does mention a favorite genious of mine, both in letters and philosopy

Ahhhh! William Blake....

Enjoyed the poem, Triska

Hello Tris!  Seems like you did
a right fair job...

Had to smile, yep, I did...possibly quite like Ice...

because: if not for someone else coming and laying a seed in a field of green...

if not for that, and for enjoying the beauty that those very seeds left behind,

how would we know that we could not gather them, mix them, possibly receive hybrids with the help of birds, and bees...and form yet another elysium field...from which might spring a new thought...on borrowed seed...

Yes...indeed...as might be [as was] said, there is nothing new under the sun...

really?
