would have thought of closeted cases
once afraid to touch all bases
migrant issues step in places
bedroom closets, cupboard spaces
headaches of smuggled relations
persons deposed, indignations
shielded behind shutters
strung on wires left to right
some fell to gutters..

The closet opens with a stir
is it the attic cat has purred?
illegal mmigrants lung into the room
what can happan at the phase of a moon?

a doctor waits outside closet space
to inspect its human face
relatives smuggled
some with fever
coughs, lungs that bled
hours since being fed
one treated, then the next
today's cross  Atlantic citizen
then people without papers.

today a child plays in a closet
comes nowhere close to dreaded fantasies
how a closet doors shielded
marked a cloistered freedom
for fear of another inspector
who would ask where these people came from

they were illegal at first
but then they stayed...
they hid in closets
just like in the old country
for fear of being exported...
deported for a wild scheme.

...

In your light I learn how to love
In your beauty how to make poems
You dance inside my chest where
no one sees you and that sight becomes this art

Martin

You give new meaning to the scary closet of my childhood.  Well done!

thanks for understanding Maureen that this refers to my relatives and friends of relatives who came to Canada that way...but it can also remind people of other frightful events...

Ow, this hurts to read -- and a welcome pain.
