Ash, blown softly against the corner,
the corner of a darkened hearth.

Seemingly asleep, dormant, awaiting
an awakening by some force...unknown,
unseen....perhaps imagined.

Sultry winds tugged against the wooden
shutters as love...once felt... pulled
the trembling heart and cracked the soul of
the master of a quill, an instrument
now lying in ashes....the ends of
the feather singed...blackened by
crushed cinders.

Whisper with the darkness...rise
upon the gale’s looming swell,
hush the swollen tides...bring to
bay the bright moon’s glow...as stars
shed like heaven’s tears...and
then....write....write again...
If but just once, once more...
