Kneeling on the ridge
a flower of a cloud watches the valley,
blossoms of moisture
contained within its petals.
I am in the valley waiting, dry,
yearning for the first rain.
I can feel it nudge my eyes,
dancing in the air
but really, it isn’t there,
as white darkens to dusk then charcoal
and I hear the distance rumble.

I am swept away by ions movement
up past the trees and the canyon walls,
right up to the moment of beginning,
in need for rain, I call.

Feeling ripe, past the time of picking,
I understand the leathered skin of fruit,
and the brave joy of children in the sprinkler,
from the birthing bed
they have grown tall with thirst,
and live straining to hear
the clouds in concert,
consort like patient lovers,
their magesty threaded, puffed and shredded
in the high singing winds.

Clouds contemplate the dry hills,
wanting to touch their tongue to the hard dirt,
to open the river slim of a canyon’s skirt
and lick with moisture this lacking.
Yes, the river will be first.

And then,

A June-bug in July bowed at my bare feet
as I watched the leaf walking that was on top her
and wondered what magic I had caught,
a captured iridescent queen
under dry vegetations screen,
was the perfect plea, for I could see the dust
upon her wings.

And then it rained like all get-out,
she flew away between the drops,
and the other (me) got drenched
in the end it seems.
---------
with thanks to a special muse.

I especially liked that.

Much appreciated your sensitivity in this beautiful piece.  I understand the dryness and the drenching.   ......jo

This invites the reader to come rest by your side
While you spill words like a river
Onto the breast of hunters
Who grieve with melancholy poverty
But you purge light and worth
Filling the realms of endless space
With visions of natures joy
Gifts of friends you write

Oh hugs Martie, this was awesome!
Going back for another swim in this
lovely place....thank you for writing and sharing
Was thinking of you last evening
wishing you well

When sun drenched valleys ache with parched veins,
and brown, dried cracks seek held off rains,
Even bugs need to scurry about on daily toil
While we humans simply boil.

Well written, Martie...  Great flow of thought and image.  Hugs Ken

Oh to see the world through your eyes Martie..
and then to place them written so perfectly on pages of blue
for readers to soak up,
and stand in awe, of your talent.
Thank you for this keeper.

You build the tension so smoothly... I didn't realize I was holding my breath until I finished reading. *S*

(giggles) Awwwwwwww, I loved that immediate turning point in the poem with the cute lil' junebug, as though you're contemplating the lotus which yearns for a soft shower and then suddenly the cute lil' bug skips over your knee, yay! (angel friendship hugs) Awwwww, I'll summon an angel rain dance for you, yay! (does angel rain dance) Yay, this is wonderful, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martie, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

I've waited a long time to respond to this....I've been reading poems off and on all day, and answering most long after I've read them. I'm glad there is someone who can bring this from you -- I know you've been concerned about that long dry spell. It's a shower indeed....but I believe that underneath it all, you called this one, and told it where to fall.

May there be many, many more!

Martie....

I found peace when reading this....the images are powerful....

In your light I learn how to love
In your beauty how to make poems
You dance inside my chest where
no one sees you and that sight becomes this art

Ancient ritual
In the religion of rain
Waiting patiently

A leaf umbella unfolds
Above a June-bug, a sign

(of what's to come)

A simply lovely-earthy poem,
With hints of spirituality..

Very nice, Martie

I know that feeling of wanting it to rain. It happens to those of us that live in an area (like good old Cali) where we don't see rain for six months at a time.

This is a beautiful poem, Martie. I always feel peaceful after reading one of your poems.

And you always look like you're having fun in your pictures!
