As cases go, no problems here, divorce- run of the mill
Husband, wife, an eight year old, a little girl named Jill,
Middle class, respectable, no knock down drag out fight,
Both parties testifying, that things are fine- all right,
It is just we both agree, that our marriage it should end,
Even though we’re separating, each other is a friend,
And our little daughter Jill, she’s the apple of our eye,
We would never do a thing, to make our daughter cry,
She loves us both and we love her, she’s handling this quite well,
She’s happy as she’s ever been, we know that’s what she’d tell,
We’d like to split our time with Jill, shared custody we seek,
We’ll alternate our time with her, take every other week.
The judge, he took a recess, to talk to Jill alone,
Judges do that in divorces, because it has been shown,
A child is frightened when in Court, so it’s done to ease their fear,
The judge back in his chambers, spoke to Jill and he did hear,
When I am with mommy, I miss daddy and I cry,
When I am with daddy, I miss mommy and I cry,
It’s all my fault, I have been bad, I wish that I could die
Jill is such a happy girl, the apple of their eye.

It's a very difficult li[n]e...

especially when the folks purport
to being "just friends"...

Good job, Sir, of laying out truths.

this humbles and surely speaks volumns...thank you for writing, and articulating how this so effects children...

My girlfriends son, is presently going thru this, his ex is an attorney, no less...and she is being brutal with their daughter, so controlling and possessive, not thinking love, but hate and revenge...her parents were that way with her, way over bearing and way to involved to the point that they were responsible for the break up...now, they are doing the same thing with the grand daughter, with no care, but of themselves...

God I wish people would think...sorry for this disortation, but this severed a nerve...

This is just so sad yet unfortunately very true.
You wrote on a touchy topic very well.
Much enjoyed the read.

Something tugs at me, I've no doubt of that.
Something from the sea, whichever one I'm near.
When I stray too far from beachland, it calls me back
