John, this imagery certainly leaves much to interpretation. Perhaps it's just the moment, but I read this as sad.

I do love your poetry, although quite often I find myself wishing you'd go on...

(and coincidentally, I've a framed print on my wall that conveys this a maked similarity to this image.)
