Obligations

She had lots to say
Her words were like honey to a bear
I could not get enough

She spoke with a mixed accent
hands drawing pictures in the air
as she talked of places and people
long ago

What mysteries she brought from across
the sea
secrets of the grand ladies
only the privledged would be privy too

For a pound note her father would line up votes
a lavish party or two
and she watched as the power and influence flowed

Servants meticulously dressed
There to attend the guests as need be
Food served first to the them

Her mother concious of their dignity
Their need to be taken care of
and in return
respect for her postion and their loyalty

No servant left to want
No need to steal what they felt was shared
Knowing they too were privledged and proud
to play their part

I remember when she returned to her homeland
going back to take care of those who
nutured her since childhood
The cooks, the chauffer, the houseboys
The last of her family gone now
She would secure their futures
It was a trust she would not betray...

Aha...

and I sense that there will
be more...

oh, I hope so.

AND?  You left behind the seed
of a new poem...thank you for that!

That's a sad tale that I'm afraid to say I know all to well...not so much in terms of affluence...but in the obligations that as the daugther I'm supposed to fulfill.  It goes far beyond just being born and making your family proud!

Sunshine,

Thank you and yes, I hope I will be inspired to write more of her.

I'm looking forward to reading your "sprouting seed".

Yv,

Yes, being a daughter holds great responsibility. But the rewards can be
tremendous. If you are fortunate to have a mom, nothing can be greater than a mother daughter relationship whether you are born into it or adopted it.

No one in this life will ever love you in the same way or have your interests at heart as a loving mother. The greatest gift a daughter can give is just being there!

Hugs,

SG
