A Depth Of Tablet

If I look with a thousand-yard stare
this tablet turns transparent,
or so my eyes start to pretend.
Deep without surface, an illusion
of blue threads floats suspended,
skinny, dimensionless as ink
within a yellow depth of no surface.

Minutes waddle by like pregnant cats
until my ever-growing blind spots
break the lines, here, there,
wipe in a shifty blankness
that deteriorates as it all
fades back to a tablet again.

My mind can only
fill in generalities, background
from the yellow tesseract
the nerves throw together.
I would be a bad graphic artist,
working a photograph,
trying with indifferent success
to mouse a pervert uncle
out of the wedding pictures,
and with a little slip
spoiling the bride’s gown.

Still I see for a moment
and in inappropriate colors
one tiny panorama, an inadequate
view of the threads of spirit
as they reach and stretch, and sometimes,
touching, cling if only for a moment
before the page springs flat,
gone back to dye and cellulose,
daring me to tell what I’ve seen.

My mind can only
fill in generalities

love that line...

too tired at the moment to  tell you what else I thought wonderful about your writing ...

Ed

Sometimes it is possible to travel beyond what seems to be, into a place beyond ordinary....like this:

"It mattered not that warm sweet wind
came with the slice that cut me thin
I knew the breath was born from bone
that crossed through veil of time unknown"

You have done that in this poem and taken me with you.

Your poem isn't just magnificent... it inspires other talented pens. *S*

I would be a bad graphic artist,

I sincerely doubt you'd be bad at anything you attempted... but if, in fact, you would be a bad graphic artist, that's one tiny lack in your immense well of talent. *S* And here... you paint with pen... such vivid images fitting perfectly into a whole that makes me long to be such a poet. *S*

Excellent!!!

When a poem stays with me for a few hours, I know I've found a treasure... when it stays with me for several days... when images from it slip into my mind to make me smile or simply think a while... it's the rival of Fort Knox. *S*

This brought back so many memories... of times nearly forgotten when clothes acquired another color so they'd seem newer for another school year... and of eggs getting a color bath to be pretty for the Bunny not so many months ago. *S* Swirls of color have always fascinated me... but never could I imagine pulling such depth from my ponderings as you've done here. And the tablet I see most often these days mutes colors into shades of gray. *S*

Such depth... such delight... *S* "Minutes waddle by like pregnant cats"... That has to be one of the best lines I've read!!! *S* Fantastic!

It has been said,
"a piece of art"...

yet what you did,
was brave the monster
that eats words.

Ed, one for the books!  How you do this, I will never know! How do you perceive such detail among the transparent?  The answer must be that you are a true to life dreamer, artist, poet... A keeper to re-read when I look at the blank paper and into the distance!   Easy to relate to this...

I agree you are most inspiring.....

In your light I learn how to love
In your beauty how to make poems
You dance inside my chest where
no one sees you and that sight becomes this art

Ed,
This one has special meaning for me.  You describe a problem I have in perception and expression, although, you seem to meet the challenge with sheer excellence!

nodding with understanding here Ed.

Lately I'm afraid to write--I never know what will come out.

(I only type the stuff, actually.)

Much enjoyed...
