Something Of Summer

Just in ink lies my connection to my greatest loss
All in memory of us and without you here
Etched not only on this paper I have before me
But, penned in your absence of eleven years...

I take on the season, Dad, of when you decided to fly
Making something of summer other then our past
Yet, that soundless sun somehow echo's our cries still
On that hot July day that we saw you last...

Tears stream to the breeze that should be ever warm
For, I find a chill in it's path to embrace
And, if I lift my eyes to the summer sky overhead
Always, the clouds take the shape of your face...

I try to make something of summer other then grief
Live just a little in it's awesome greens
But, my knees have seemingly made it's permanent place
Here, on these grounds of a heartache scene...

I've looked to find something of summer that allows me
A tender way to roam who we used to be
But, evening begins falling and I sigh to it's knowing
That, at this very time we were no longer a family...

And, Oh, how it gives way to when your eyes would shine
To when something of summer, and you, are so easy to find
Picturing you on our porch with the summer moon as your friend
But, why couldn't God find room for all of us then?...
