My Monkey

I have a monkey on my back
Whispering the things I lack
Digging in my shoulder blade
Reminding me mistakes I made

He chits and chatters all day long
A devious and maddening song
Reminding me the whole day through
The missteps that I made with you

He pulls my ear and tweaks my nose
And often makes me stub my toes
He pushes memories in my mind
Those memory thoughts of not too kind

And though I blame it all on youth
It’s still an ache of tooth and truth
And I am bent this weight of seem
Whose fires singe me in my dream?

There lays upon my back a load
That wearies me this lonesome road

Oh, Sir Tumbleweed, on the bright side, you at least have a little monkey with charm and personality instead of a giant, grumpy gorilla on your shoulder!

Not only do I have compassion for how you feel, I have admiration for how well you expressed those feelings.

Giving you a big, warm angel hug,
EA
