If I could talk to bones, I’d ask
“Why has God put you here?”
and what of metaphors?
Why does each scramble words?
Scattered into different patterns?
Christians are talking, you know
Like white paint flaking off
Into a sea of gnashing teeth
Why do wrought iron benches rust
In different places?
And which of right or left is right?
Why did He leave so many stones unturned?
I don’t want to believe that God destroyed the earth
Or sentenced woman to suffrage
What about everyone’s mortgage?
They talk of him as loving
Wrapped in life’s mystery
Everyone searching for the truth
Wull whom shall I believe?
And the insults from voices of gravel
Who believe their belief is written in stone?
Tell me Lord, why have you left me here all alone?
To unscramble the words of ancient lifetimes…
And what about the religious fanatics who
Think you want everyone else dead?
Good God…I shiver inside, when I don’t know
Right from left?
and because I'm not saved, so your saying
I won't go to heaven?
what about searching for the truth?
Is that man's ultimate slaughter?
Everyone believe's their concept is the Godspell
God...which is right and which is wrong
and why in your name, do people become
condescending and mock, pointing fingers of anger
whose opinion is the right one?
Whose religion is the right one?

You, dear lady, have written a "Jeremiad."

And since I owe you an e mail anyhow, I'll explain there.

There's a movie written and directed by Robert Duvall, called "The Apostle" and a scene therein portrays his character, a minister who had lost his wife & kids by divorce and also his church, was screaming at God through the rafters of his bedroom.

The phone rings, and his mother answers and in a one-sided conversation we understand that someone is complaining of the noise.

She explains that sometimes her son talks to God, and sometimes he screams.

That night, he happened to be screaming.

She was smiling as she hung up the phone.

enjoyed lady

Lee,

So very well expressed!  This has to be one among my favorites.  I'll tuck this away for further ponderings!

~ Gosh, I so do know what you mean! I guess I tried to cover a few of those bases! I was baptized into three different churches. And have been a member of several more.

I've been an Anglican, a Evangelican, a Catholic, a Spiritualist... lol God has probably had a good laugh at all those different paths that I was taking to find Him ~ Afterall, He wasn't out there! He was right inside of me all along!

A very provocative and fascinating piece of philosophical writing, my friend! You have a marvellous mind to go along with that talent of yours!

Love & Light,
Linda

Well done, Lee...applause is sent for this poem and your courage to ask the questions in it..

The answers are beyond my meager perception, I can only imagine what they are, therefore I am guessing and have no credibility..

I can only make sense of spiritual things (as well as solids) by the limits of my experience..Most of my experiences being based on natural world/universe phenomenon's...

That is why I am a Pantheist/Quaker

Love the poem.....
