Sitting on a bar stool, sipping his drink
He closes his eyes and starts to think
Of the woman he loved so long ago
Where is she now, he wants to know

For twenty years he's sat in that bar
Wondering how he made it this far
Drinking each night to numb the pain
Hoping she'd walk through that door again

She said she'd do better without him around
A better man, she thought she had found
The bartender's known him for all these years
Helping him battle the pain and the fears

And he knows how he loved her and what it has done
It's killed him inside, made him good for no one
The bar is busy, they don't notice her
She sits at a table, wrapped up in fur

She calls out his name and he starts to weep
He turns around wiping tears from his cheek
And walks to the table to sit down beside
The woman, who, for twenty years, he has cried

And she asks his forgiveness and clutches his hand
She sees that he still wears his wedding band
Through tear filled eyes and with a broken voice
He tells her that he really has no choice

He’s longed for this moment from the day she left
He tells her how many tears he has wept
And he knows his life has come full circle
His heart is alive, his soul now youthful

The bartender knows, as they walk out the door
He won’t be back in this place anymore
He’s gone to make up for the years they lost
Now that their paths have once again crossed.

I really enjoyed your poem/story....it gave me chills..because of the title...and then the people inside of the poem reminds me of someone I know....hmmmm?

It is one of those sci-fi spooky, uncanny moments...

as if I know you...

Great poem!
