Aware, beware
the faery ring
for where they dance
is where they sing
Homage to the faery-king
encircled mushrooms round.

"A circle on the ground!"
said they,
"A circle is a line."
they sang,
"swallowing it's tail."
they scried
"a circle can be found."

(A circle on the ground.)

Rain and pain
and skies that cry
the father sun
in bleed of eye
as dots of white
appear in bloom
across the lawn
to shade the moon

"A circle on the ground!"
said they,
"A circle is a line
of time
swallowing it's tail."
they say
"a circle can be found."

(A circle on the ground.)

tragic magick
unaware
the foot that can't
dance life in bare
skin too tickled by the leaf
of laughter underneath the feet
of circles shrieking
underground--
"Our faery life is doomed!"

(Our lives will end too soon.)

They said:

"A circle must be round."

serenity,
That circle on the ground
That circle is profound
And will never fail
To swollow its tail.

Trust me when I tell you this is a song in the waiting!  My girls are gonna love this and I intend to sing it to them too! We always tiptoe in the yard so carefully.  Oh yes, and we thank you too.

I forgot to sing you our song while I was here, I did, I did   so here goes...

"Come join hands ~ let’s all sing.
Watch your step for a fairy ring.
Wee folk are alive in this grass
Both bonnie boy, and giddy lass.

They bless our house night and day,
Send fairy dreams at night our way
In the daytime while they sleep,
That is when you carefully peek.

Watch your step out in the grass,
That is all the wee folk ask."

Wrote that for Tori at 2, and they both still sing it every time they go on the grass.
Oh the joys of being a Gramma.

Congrats to your children *wink*

and you know this reminded me of that print
(I have it) of Midsummer Eve by Hughes.  This is lovely, I saw a ring of trees, Karen
and the fuzzy things that float about in the sunlight like in Legend or LOTR.

Beautiful.

*beaming atchoo all*

and yes, this was inspired my kids, my son wrote this sorta Celtic Metal tune, and my daughter's friend kept kicking over the toadstools on our lawn, so I told her to cut it out, she was ticking off the faeries, and that faeries, when angry turn into those green buzzing flies! (I get the strangest looks around here.)

But she stopped kicking over my faery rings.

And Mysteria, you know I also had your girls in mind as I wrote. (So I kept it "clean". )

It felt good to write something "light" for a change, and I appreciate all the light in return. Love and Hugs to all.

Clean is good.  Um, Celtic Metal?   That I would have to hear!  Is it sort of like Rap Opera, or Folk Jazz?

Karen, I could nearly hear your son's tune in the background (think you must have captured part of it in the words you've imparted here, really).  Much enjoyed!   ....jo

Faerie rings....

So that's what they are!

I picture small late-night poker games. Little bearded, cigar smoking dudes in pointy hats.

serenity,
This is an excellent poem. I too believe it is a song simply missing melody. That should be the easy part. I can hear melodies in my ears inspired by this poem already.

While I appreciate, very much, all of your kindness, I confess that I'm especially delighted to know there are a couple of gorgeous Canadian girls singing my song.

That makes me happy.

Love to all.

I can hear a melody for this, indeed.

Reminded me of lyrics written by King Crimson.

Well rhymed. Enjoyed.
