within a moment’s breath
she finds
mint julep memories
of the back porch kind
a summer’s evening
enveloped
in the milk chocolate
of twilight’s shade

she sits
listening to the old oak trees
rustle in answer
to the whispers
of the breeze—

strawberry sweet sounds

seedless

a go down smooth sort of moment
when the years fall away
like almond bark shavings
and the treat of the night
is
having your cake

and eating it too

where youthful follies
are slow sip savor
garnished with a simple slice
of long ago
innocence

Mmmm… let me sip and savor this poem.   Thank you for the serving… and for those who might want a recipe of such:

Mint Julep

4-5 tender mint leaves
1 Tbs. Sugar
2 Jiggers whiskey

Crush mint leaves and sugar in a pharmaceutical mortar with pestle; add whiskey.
Pour into Julep Cup filled with crushed ice. Garnish with pretty clusters of mint leaves and insert straw.
Makes 1 Mint Julep.

Summer breeze, back porch, trees, and a mint julep memory to round things out... enjoyed!
