Brick-by-Brick

Some time ago I came across an ailing heart
It was protecting itself behind a brick wall,
A wall it had painstakingly put up
Brick-by-Brick
Un-trusting and hurt, it was unable to feel
With caring words, respect and a little tenderness
one by one the bricks came down,
allowing me to touch it, if only for a while
Free from its confines, room to breath
It regained its trust; I saw it take off in free flight
Another heart touched it, as I gave it time to heal

The bricks from the wall I didn’t discard
I saved them in case they were needed
As it turns out, I need them myself

I have opened up my heart one too many times
The first time I thought it was for a lifetime
But that wasn’t meant to be
The second, and last time was to this ailing heart
But I was there to set it free
Now the bricks will encase my own heart
Not that it is un-trusting
It just hurts so much
When the special ones I let in,
Leave

How tenderly you allow a look beyond this wall...subtle is the key, that only those with true sensitivity would find the gate.

There is purpose in these walls, although just as we build them, so too can we let them down.

Hugs,

this doesn't deserve to be hidden in the back pages .....

it is an awesome and honest write.

.. have a few bricks of my own,
                      we all do!

This poem touches the heart deeply for I too recognize the bricks and their use...for many it remains a wall that cannot be breached but today I have built a door to let a few souls in to share the garden of my heart with me...I hope that someday you will remove the bricks so that others may share the heart of someone whose words touch many....*big hugs*

PazSqual,

An extraordinary write.  Perhaps not now, but I have a feeling that someone or something will remove those bricks one by one.  (Sure could identify with this... Glad someone tore down my wall...)

Alas, alas, I use bricks of glass.

I do understand.....perhaps, why I tend to drift to solitude.   ....jo
