"The Dream That Came True"

My thoughts take me back to years long ago
I see this young child that I use to know
The Love that she shared with her mom and dad
Just couldn't compare to what others had

Especially her dad the bond was so strong
In her eyes alone he could do no wrong
So close by his side she always would stay
When he would come home from work every day

He knew of her dreams and made them come true
Except for the one he just couldn't do
She wanted a horse as black as the night
With hair smooth as silk that shined in the light

A horse that was wild yet tamed by her touch
A stallion was what she wanted so much
The city was why it just couldn't be
But he said "Someday, I promise you'll see"

Well years have gone by the child is now grown
Experiencing life she's out on her own
The dream of that horse for her stayed the same
But so sad it seems no horse ever came

But she didn't mind she still Loved him so
He must have forgot so she let it go
She came home to visit at Christmas one year
And on her dad's face his age was so clear

Then morning had come with presents to share
The very last gift he handled with care
He gave it to her and said, "It's for you
I didn't forget it's best I could do"

As she looked inside her eyes filled with tears
Yes there was her dream she'd wanted for years
A shiny black horse she held up to see
So perfectly made as all dreams should be

She knew in her heart what he had gone through
To find her this gift as he promised too
Her dad couldn't read like most of us can
So stores never saw the face of this man

What courage it took to search on his own
This gift for his child the woman now grown
Yes even today this horse you can see
It sits on my shelf dad bought it for me

Though it isn't real it's still better yet
Dad Loved me so much he didn't forget
So maybe the dream was part of him too
Dad died one year after "The Dream That Came True"

Oh, this carried me along into the water of tears.  A most heartfelt and touching poem.

Thank You both,
You aren't the only one who had tears. I barely could see to even write it. My dad died in 1983 and gave me the horse the yr. before. So as you can see it took along time before I was able to write this one.
Thank You again and God Bless!
