Today I really must wonder:
are humans devoid of compassion?
Incapable of living in a world
without war
and other collective madness?
Without the oppression and killing
of innocent people everywhere?
Without violent dictatorships
disguising themselves
as democracies
or worse, legitimate business corporations
whose only goal is greed –
to make money at any cost?

I think humans are incapable
of living in such a world.
For without fascist governments
pumping them full of fear;
without the news media
reporting and exploiting their tragedies
– just another part of normal life –
people would become unhappy
lose interest in their world
and the good life wouldn’t seem so good
if life really was so good
there was no spice of violence
and no tragedies to gawk at.

My conclusion has to be this:
that tragedies -
particularly if they happen somewhere else
provide great entertainment;
are wonderful sources of gossip
without which, for most
life is boringly unbearable.

~ Unfortunately, some humans are devoid of compassion and the about quote be the case.

However, dear poet, I do believe that the majority of humanity is compassionate and loves their fellow man.

An interesting write with thoughts to ponder.

Wind
Your last stanza is not only a conclusion but perhaps a beginning for some, the start of a thought process of self examination.

Perhaps overabundance leads to boredom and gossip in that case makes it more bearable?

I personally find no time to be bored and am disgusted by the tabloid type news that seems to take over the media ...Especially when it takes air time away from very important events...

Good writing, good thinking

I would like to hope that goodness still outweighs ... "evilness" but wishes and hopes like dreams don't appear to be part of this world, unfortunately.  But you paint a realistic picture.  Well done!

Boy this gift of Freewill given to each of us can sure be a burden at times....I have a conclusion of my own...I think that most people want to live in a world filled with peace but meek mannered by nature they find it too hard to stand up against the louder voices that want power above all else so what is told them is accepted even when it is not believed...I could go on and on with this topic...Your words do bring that out in me...If only more were willing to stand up to the so called strong....*big hugs* dear friend...

I think most of us don't pay that much attention.  If it doesn't directly affect us, we don't want to know.  This is well done, it sparks discussion and thought.
