Chained to His Mood

The taste of it in the air
sometimes despair and on sunny Sundays
a ride in the car car
going for a ride in the car to the beach
with bare feet

Freckles his arms told this hold of sun
but more the score
he wept on weekdays with stone eyes
that hurt me
but Sunday was my window seat
and the telephone pole watch of drowsy
where the drain is open and the careful watch loosened

Oh it felt so good    to not have to be careful
for almost a whole day

The muted conversation background music
to the sweet slipping away    to dream
and then the sand caught me in my beginning
and in its end   to distribute time in a picnic basket
with peanut butter and jelly
and warm milk from a thermos

Run me to the waves daddy
let me ride again on the shoulders of your love
your Sunday love

Wow!  I don't remember a day like that.    I think I may need one of those...but then who would sleep, listening, with one eye open?

I don't remember...not one time....my father picking me up. My memories go back all the way to nursing and being unable to turn over -- and I don't remember a single time. I do remember those once-or-twice-a-summer days at Excelsior Springs, and they were glorious!

You've done it again, Martie -- turned on the memory flood....but I wish I had that one to recall.

There are certain ones you write
that make the swell of tears spill over..
this is one such write.
