Silhouette

Dream-struck,
vision-torn,

a man, or something
less or more,
moves through a growing dusk

across an arid plain.

His lined face streaked with dust,
he shambles, stumbles, falls,

claws his way to stand.

Shod in blood,

accompanied by the keening wind
and the dying sun
he staggers into waiting distance.

Watching ravens call,

a chant of brotherhood
or song of celebration
or entreaty.

Who can know the meaning
of a harbinger,
an omen,
augury of mortality?

Listen to the wind.

WOW!!! I am reading Louis L'amour and this poem felt like one of his characters...magnificent how you opened this vision...Very well done...A poem to be enjoyed by those with vision...
