The Epiphany

~ Linda L. Dowd ~

Motes of dust danced in the light,
As I lazed away in bed.
Sagebrush thoughts kept tumbling ‘round,
My dazed and sleepy head.

Pensively, I languished there,
Then from me slipped a sigh,
For thru’ the open window,
I spied blue denim sky.

Clouds were softly swirling,
Playing hide-and-seek with sun.
I wished to fly up high and free,
Until my days were done.

The struggles of the road I walked,
Had taken quite a toll.
I yearned for sweet serenity,
To soothe my sinking soul.

While lying there in reverie,
An epiphany soon appeared.
~ Each step in my life’s journey,
Was to be embraced ~ not feared.

Through loving self and others,
And with faith in God above,
I could conquer all that came my way,
Through inner strength and love.

By turning from my challenges,
My essence lost its glowing.
~ I had to walk with courage,
And trust my inner knowing.

I swiftly cast the covers off,
And leapt from cozy bed.
No longer would I hide from life,
For I planned to live instead.

Linda
These are the type of poems I like to read early in the morning....I call them "soft" poems.
Don't get me wrong, this poem has a strong message.
It is the way that it  is written that makes it tender.

The last stanza ends the poem perfectly....

Gentle Spirited One ~

Good morning, Donna! I love those two words, "enlightening" and "inspirational".
I find them extremely gratifying whenever they have been used to describe my poetry!

May you shine as does the sun this day!

Hugs with love,
Linda

I love the denim sky and the sagebrush thoughts.  And yes, I'll live too, even though it seems the harder thing to do.

It pleases me when you enjoy my poetry, Dear Poetess!

Here is a nice cold glass of ice water with a twist of lemon for you! Hope this will help cool you down during this extremely hot weather we're having.

When I've found myself pouting that my path hasn't been easy... I remember where it has brought me... and give thanks instead of complaints. *S* You obviously do so, too... and most poetically! *S* This is beautiful, my friend! *S*

Hi, Eric! How are things out there in the eastern part of our glorious country?

It has been hotter than Hades here in Ontario. That is one of the reasons I like visiting Heaven! It's cool and blue up there!

Seriously speaking, it was good to hear from you!

Big, warm hug,
Linda
