(sorry folks, it is an anniversary of sorts and this poem nagged me to do this)

     How long has it been
since you died in my arms,
how long since your warmth filled my soul?

Why is it now that we're real worlds apart,
I still feel you by me when I'm all alone?

Why in a crowd do I see your small form
     moving quickly like smoke through a screen;
how do you borrow the face of a stranger
just to smile at me through her eyes?

How does my sense for you stay so alive
that I still hear you laugh in my dreams?

why are these tears in my eyes as I write,
     it's thirty-five years that you're gone.

This brought a tear to my eye at the same time that it spread warmth for the knowledge that we can indeed love this deep, and that love is it's own reward.

Haunting is not the adequate word for this, but it is.  Hope you don't dwell too long...35 years, my oh my.  Wrote something myself once that this made me think of, but all I can remember is the title as it  was at least 20 years ago...title was:  Where Does Love Go When It Dies?   ....jo

Thank you for sharing this again, it's just too beautiful to be put in a drawer!

I feel like sitting next to you on that bench, holding your hand, while you go through this intense emotion. What has been, never dies, it transforms.

Love and hugs.

Those who had truly touch our hearts and souls, are never forgotten. This person will dwell forever in your loving and poetic heart ~ and especially on anniversaries...

Memories can keep us warm on the coldest and dreariest of days.

Sending you a loving hug, Dear Poet,
Linda

Because sometimes when someone is gone, they don't leave.
