Listening to every heart

Let’s Not Hurry Home…

Pismo gulls sang to us,
off-screech and laughing while
cool sand was grinding a chill under toes,
light windbreakers keeping
goosebumps from appearing on arms,
forget the legs, they’ll get use
to the chill…

and even in the fog of then,
I beamed under your smile…

…and felt a poem shifting…

I remember thinking,
why would sunfish leap
in that gray day,
before it stole away to blues...
though the tease of you said
they were greeting us…
and you warned me not to skip too high,
or I might find that bored walk’s sliver,

I did, but didn’t, though my toe did…

So I held your pole, and my pole,
steadying my ready ow to part the skies
while you tweezed part of the pier
and wondered of infection, so I prayed

Let’s not hurry home.

What summer of love surfed between us,
those few and brief alone moments,
what heartstrings did we strum
just then, as you
fathered the daughter-love…

you’ve never let me forget the
special winds…so, know

these Kansas plains were covered
in California Pismo fog this morning.

You didn’t think I would forget?

I only miss you        more.

~*~

Yes, Papa…we remember.

Sissie....this is so touching!

"You didn’t think I would forget?

I only miss you        more."

I don't think you could ever forget anything that touches your heart....there are poems to prove that!

Beaches of our youth
Mingled strands of love and sun
Never forgotten

You write so lovingly.  Ken

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light

Those gray days always seem to turn blue, even if it is just before the sun sets.

A poem shifting, yes that's it Karilea.  This is so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes.  I don't know what to say when certain poems effect me in such a way.

Your memories of your Papa are lovely, and this is very special.
