Frantic running upon the waters clear,
Frantic running beneath the crystal sphere;
Leaving round prints as I go upon the sea,
The fish watching with a kind mystery.

And I searched with a heart full of fear
For the traces of my poetry.

Frantic as I dived to the sea below,
Pulling grasps of water against the flow
To the Octopus’s garden in the shade,
Vanished as I glanced on a distant fade.

And vanished too that mystic glow,
As darkness comes to invade.

Frantic surfacing from the wat’ry grave
As I scrambled beside the cruising wave
With its hungry mouth of foamy fangs
Where the blades of Death often hang.

And still the roar of the blue ocean gave
No echoes of the chords I sang.

Frantic racing unto the distant shore,
Frantic running on the sandy silver floor
Beside the setting of the crimson sun
While the golden sea calmly spun;

Searching at the sight I pondered before,
Asking for answers getting none.

Frantic climbing above the mountains steep,
Frantic racing across the valleys deep,
And I ran to the toes of Italy,
In through the fields where the songbirds may be;

And still from their melodies I cannot reap
The songs I sang in my fantasy.

Frantic running to where dead poets lie
Where their humble ghosts float and fly
Around rugged grey swells of aging stones:
Forgotten remnants of decaying thrones.

But no wisdom that I seek there does lie,
Only remains of pallid bones.

Frantic diving into the filthy ground
Where void souls of heaven are bound
Near the red river of roaring fire
Burning indifferently thief or liar.

And in this desolate hell I haven’t found
The thoughts they used to inspire.

Frantic running around oceans and lands
‘Til I came across a path where roses grew.
I saw a girl with flowers in her hands
Who sang beautiful notes and songs of blue.

When I met this beautiful maiden bright
She smiled to me and gave me a rainbow.
It shone to my heart with a healing glow,
But as I looked she vanished from my sight.

---

Frantic as I searched for my maiden bright,
Around the sky and clouds of milky white,
As the golden rainbow glowed around me,
Whilst searching and waiting desperately.

But nowhere can I see my maiden bright,
Though still I’ll search frantically.
