Dead Flowers

Monday - Dead flowers.
She sent them C.O.D.
I guess a smarter person would have understood.
Me, I paid the bill - gave him a tip,
sent her a card in return

"Love is Believing" it said,
"And I will always believe."

Thursday - my card came back
full of rose thorns.
Surely she's was making a point.
So I sent her a dozen, thorn less, Red Roses.

"Love is Understanding" the attached card read.

Saturday, another C.O.D.
Inside the box was a gun -
one bullet -
a note -
"For you!" it read.

Sunday I went to church.
She was there, in our pew.
I gave her the box she sent,
the gun in pieces,
the bullet expended and a card
with a big red heart on the front,
a hole in it's center,
a picture of me -
D E C E A SED scrawled across my face.

Dead flowers – C.O.D.,
and still . . .
I believed.

Jimmy

This sounds like a game that isn't very funny.  I'm sorry if this really happened to you.

Pictures indeed, and in a church yet.  You have a strong grasp of the poetic symbol and it hit home with me.

I certainly hope that this was simply poetry and not some disquieting form of misdirected poetic justice. How unsettling! How sad! Whew! It certainly caused me to sit up and take notice!

it is a rare find today, that someone realizes, the death words and actions can cause...metephorically speaking, but doesn't make the pain any less....hugs to ya

Quite a story, I hope it wasn't quite as bad as it seems.
Nice to read you again
