...and kiss the stone


I’ve brought a wreath
made of thistles,
wrapped in my flesh
and tied up with years.

I lay it at your feet
and kiss the stone.

Stunted salt cedar
twitches in the rising wind.

I must go tend my garden;
the hyssop wilts
and the spurge is dry.
