I sip the scent of camphor
and wear the leather around my neck
like the hanged man did
when he waited for trees
to grow tall over his shadow

so speaks the ground of sorrows
where arrowheads worship
the fertile blood cloth
and the sound of cannon
is a concerto’s voice

only the tall ones remain
with their red wrinkle agony
pointing to a godless sky
whispering when the winds come
and ask of the old stories

there at the valley of giants
who will answer the eagle
only the serpents of ebony
with their tin jewelry hear
and their metal grows more eyes

then praying hands can harvest

Ah, now I understand! When I read your scribbler notes it all became clear to me what you were writing about ~ and you put me "write" into the spirit of your poem.

Very stirring and beautifully written. Your poet's touch was delicate, yet deep.

Love and Light,
EA

Decades ago on a family jaunt
I was honored [yes, honored]
to visit the redwoods and listen
to them whisper...

they are most magnificent...
and this piece does them a unique justice,
for they are some of the forgotten
beauty that our land still holds.

Thank you for taking me home again.

Walking in that valley of giants, there is a hush... almost the reverence of a cathedral... that we may hear that whisper.

Excellent work!

I am sure of my reasons, embracing the seasons,

DS

A special place it is, where the giants live...and the shadows they make on the road, the deep cold places within their fold, the fern beds, are also wonderful.  Thanks for taking me back with you.

A wonderfull work.
I love trees too
I once planted a Bald cypress
(Taxodium distichum)  in my yard
a cousin of the Redwood I believe.
That tree is about fourty feet high now.
