Brave Men Die

My father served in World War II.
His battle started on Omaha Beach
and he fought all the way to Germany
before his war was through.
Just like today, many felt like we
shouldn't take part in that war, but
once Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, we
were faced with fighting two wars.
My father believed it was necessary to
fight the aggression of our enemies
and he passed that belief on to me.
Along with our allies, we won that war,
and instead of ruling the world, the
Germans settled for Germany.
Today the world may be safe from Hitler,
Himmler, Goring and Goebbel, but new
threats have spilled upon our shores.
I speak of Iraq and North Korea, Iran
and Afghanistan.
There seemed to be little doubt that we
had to fight when the Japanese bombed
Pearl Harbor, and thus their ally Germany
became our enemy also, and I'm sure that
most Americans agreed that a military
response was needed against those that
destroyed the Twin Towers, but then comes
the war that I fail to understand.
The reasons again why we attacked Iraq?
Daily brave men die even as each one
of the Presidents justifications
fall by the wayside.

James
The original reasons given have all proved to be falshoods, lies, deceptions, whatever you want to call them.

Throughout history the promoters of war have used untruths as a weapon, it is part of the game, there have been no exceptions.

The first to suffer are the common soldiers in a lie-to-win situation.

Not wanting to debate war and peace in here, I will stop and say that I like your poem, and moreso the fact that you wrote it.

Peace
