oh dark night,
take this ache from my chest
so that i may breathe freely
without restraint
for it is my love
that i am without
for it is my love
that strains my heart to beat
the heart to which
beats only for he;
he who adorns the key to my heart
around his neck.
oh sweet night
let this pain flow from my eyes
and free me from this sorrow
that envelops me
and takes the light from the sky
and the voice from the birds.
oh mournful night
i beseech thee
take this wound
and make it but a dream
so that i may once again
be in his arms
and dream of days to come.
