Somewhere... out there...

0 posted 2005-05-15 10:37 PM

This ain't kansas anymore...

Toto...twisting...
in the wind... is
pedaling on
training wheels while
Dorothy plays the
basket case... in
flee of wicked
wicked

this

and, in case you
didn't know
which wicked
witch is really
which and
which is
really, really
dead?

just take a
closer look and
SEE
it's Dorothy in the
melting pot
while Toto helps the
monkeys stir the
aftermath of

end

begin?...

and yes
I do
believe
in spooks
I do
it's true... the
Wizard spoke... he
told me so... and
he would know... and
no
he wouldn't...
couldn't...

lie

and no
I'm not afraid
today...
but tell me
beg thee
show the way of
how
do I get
home
from

here

which way?

no way!...

the other way?...

there has to be a BETTER way!

just follow...
               follow...

brick
        by
             brick

while munchkins
singing
point the
way to
dizzy
yellow
circle spin... and
click
three times

begin...

again?...

now weary
in the
poppies

dream...

tomorrow brings
another
day

I pray

Vicky I have felt this type of whirl-a-wind mindset more than I care to remember. But, just like Dorothy - we always had the answer - with us all the time.
Be well dear lady. hugs, Chris

So true, Chris...
We're just sometimes too good at keeping the answers a secret from ourselves...
Hugs, my friend...

and LR?...

Thank you, my friend... more than you know...

Agreeing with Reb up there...it is really good to see you posting...this is an incredible ride on the yellow brick road.  If you keep going, it leads to my house and back.

Whew! What a ride you just took me on as your words whirled and swirled and tumbled down the page! Now that is what I'd call "poetry in motion"!

Gadzooks, girl! Now I know where you've been! You've been caught up in a twirling whirlwind in the Land of Oz! I'm glad you were able to get your bearings enough to write about your dizzying experience! ~ and might I add, you did one helluvva fine job of doing so!

Wrapping my arms around you!

It was a pleasure to read my friend.

We'll talk about the poppies privately. OH what the hell? When was I ever private about anything, eh?

If I have to say anything to one who follows the path of the yellow brick road, know that, just like it's hard to tell which witch is which, that which we rely upon for strength becomes our achille's heel...

Read "Wicked", if you haven't already.

And yes, this witch loves this, and loves YOU.

Came back to read for another time, and thought, what the hey...

knowing as you do my bent to share?

While some of us greyer gooses may understand the intent behind Baum's story, I'm sure there are a lot of folk out there who haven't done the history behind the scenes, so I excerpted a tad...

quote:
An interesting sidenote: the plot of The Wizard of Oz has often been used, rightly or wrongly, as a Parable on Populism in the Gilded Age, to explain the political situation at the time of its writing, including the 1896 Presidential election, and the turn-of-the-century Populist movement. Here are a few of the allegorical connections, most of which were originally recognized by Henry M. Littlefield, and published in the American Quarterly in 1967:

the Scarecrow - the wise, but naive western farmers
the Tin Woodman - the dehumanized, Eastern factory workers
the Wicked Witch of the East - the Eastern industrialists and bankers who controlled the people (the Munchkins)
the Good Witch of the North - New England, a stronghold of Populists
the Good Witch of the South - the South, another Populist area
the Wizard - President Grover Cleveland, or Republican Presidential candidate William McKinley
the Cowardly Lion - Democratic-Populist Presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan
Dorothy - a young Mary Lease; or the good-natured American people
Dorothy's silver shoes - represents the 'silver standard' (acc. to the Populists, "the free and unlimited coinage of silver")
Toto - the 'teetotaling' Prohibitionists (or Temperance Party), an important part of the 'silverite' coalition
the Yellow Brick road - the 'gold standard' - paved with gold, but leads nowhere
the land of Oz - oz. is the standard abbreviation for ounce, in accordance with the other symbolism
Emerald City - Washington, D.C., with a greenish color associated with greenbacks
the Poppy field - the threat of anti-imperialism

from http://www.filmsite.org/wiza.html

I've always thought it interesting that it was a political message...as such were woven into fantasies all the way back [and before], i.e, The Brothers Grimm.

You did a wonderful job here, Vicky...and I'll get any good Kansas magazine would swoop it up!
