Gentle be the heart in may,
As flowers bloom amongst the sounds-
of little life becoming born within the fields
as little children run between unknowing,
Humming a song of love not in matters-
of the body but of the dancing of the soul
upon the tender strings that beat beneath,
Where the heart lays bare to strangers.

God never started the wars-
between us as we aged and drew apart,
Was it not a moment we shared-
that tore the happy past apart
and lay it bare like strangers to the heart,

Many would whisper immortal-
if only none had fallen before us
they’d say it far and proud,
That love was not just for the young-
but the old and the aged and the
ones left in shame to cry in pitiful slumber.

To war O to war,
Let these moments never pass-
I never cared for the fights we had
just those moments we shared,
But like a wise man once said
you can’t have love without hurt.
