Where no tyranny is tolerable

Nude On television!

1:
It is evening.
My roommate and I
Are putting on a party.
The big screen is on,
The program is talking heads
Of U.S. policy toward Cuba.
I want to ask a question.
I crawl into the set
And find I’m in another world.
Startled to be in the studio,
I get cold feet,
Specially on account of being barefoot.
Quietly,
As I’m not supposed to be there,
I slip past the talking heads
And find a slide.
I glide smoothly
Down … down … down …
At the bottom
I find myself in a room
That seems suffused
By a warm and dreamy glow.
I stand there for a while, entranced.
Then I decide to try again.
I climb back up the slide
Into the studio,
This time not caring
That I’m not supposed to be there.
The show is almost over.
I raise my hand
And the moderator says: yes.
I make the observation
That, some years ago,
There was a public ceremony
During which Fidel tried to retire,
But the people wouldn’t let him
And begged him to come back.
President for life again, …
Indeed! … Indeed! …
There is laughter
And then murmured agreement,
And then the program closes.

2:
I crawl out of the set
Emerging back in the apartment.
My roommate says nobody’s here yet,
So he’s putting on another album.
I’m glad nobody’s here yet,
No one watching me on television.

3:
I crawl back into the set,
Planning to investigate the slide,
And the little room downstairs
With the warm ethereal glow,
But I run smack into the moderator,
Sprawled across the floor,
Lush, beautiful and nude.
I am shocked
At the sudden transformation of her person.
I think: my God,
What if we are still on television?
Playfully,
She is teasing, laughing, vocalizing,
Dropping s stream of quick one-liners,
Until I finally interrupt:
Don’t you have something on your schedule?
She pauses and says: yes.
Then she drops another line:
“I love those who love Me;
those who hate Me love Death,”

But what if we are still on television?
What if millions are still watching?
What horror!
What if Mother finds out?

This is also for Mysteries, who I understand has been on CBC television,
Canada's public broadcasting ... ... ...

Oops.
Anybody out there nameed "mysteries?"

Sunshine. when I ran the spell check, it of course didn't know the word "mysteria."  It suggested "mysteries' and it sounded so funny I decided to keep it that way.

Well now Jaime!  Having just watched "Alice In Wonderland" with my youngest granddaughter last night, I felt this a continuation of that rabbit trail for sure!

I thank you so kindly of thinking of me, and know for sure that the nude you saw was sure not me!  "Fully-clothed' I did a show called, "Around The Country," an hour long show where I interviewed everyone from politicians to pig farmers, and even cooked once a week but never in the my contract was I expected to bare more than my soul.   Then, at 11 at night I did the news and weather during the Jonny Carson Show but it was on KCND-TV, out of the states, in North Dakota actually.  I did get my start on CBC though through commercials, and small bit parts in series, etc. but that was a lifetime ago now.  It was over 40 years ago in Winnipeg, Manitoba of all places, and even today I am having trouble tracing those days to put together a book for my girls.  I recently got books from an author, John Einerson, a rock biographer, that is helping a lot to piece together those days, as it seemed my mind closed them out for far too many years.

Boy I have to tell you Jaime; I want whatever you are having!  You better bottle that stuff and sell it.  Thanks for the gift of this extraordinary adventure, and I hope you are doing well.
