Beside me sits my conscience; at times not such a friend
For when I find the strength to change my better self won’t bend
So back I sit within a place of promises to be
With conscience watching every move and keeping tabs on me

One life they tell me, live it well, don’t let it all pass by
I feel the wisdom of those words and even though I try
I cannot rid the weight of life, which sits upon my back
And though I try, I cannot find the simple things I lack

By and by they disappear, the years of life, our time
And though we search for what we seek, we may not find a sign
So onwardly we journey, climb mountains to their peak
And though around our life we see, we’re blind to what we seek

So let one day beget the next and play this game of life
Let the conscience worry more about some other strife
Lets share the weight of everyday among the friends we know
Then in life we’ll share a joy, no matter where we go

smiling affectionately and with guilt...truly know the jest of this...it's a lifetime uphill climb, for every three steps forward, you take 6 back...

a very good friend of mine, who is since passed on, used to tell me...the evil one is working overtime to get every kittin kaboodle he can....

Hugs my friend, wishing you the best...you depict life having it's way with us very well!

That's as good a philosophy as you could have. Well done

ah the simple things...I miss them too. They seem harder to find as age sets in.

I love this poem Rick. I'm so glad you're back.
