Lost in thought

Loss is not the word for this.
I have not misplaced your life!
I have never had to search,
though now I find you
elsewhere, under rocks
and dirt and weeds.

Loss just cannot fill the gap,
though I realize nothing can.
It’s empty, but with fault implied,
And God knows I’ve tried shucking that
upon myself or him.

Loss is so polite,
but really death is gruesome,
in all forms. It’s life that’s torn,
ripped away, from pleading
crying children’s hearts.

And loss could never salve the wounds.
Never! It is too blasé.
Too simply it slips off the tongue
and sounds like fresh cut grass, or warmth.
Death is raw, cold, and strong...
And loss is not the word for this.

He was a man of sorrows
...I am a girl of tears.

I have tried too, and no, I can't find the word.

I have to tried to find some comfort words too, and I shake my head.

There aren't any.

And I'm sorry leave you with just a lame smilie hug, but right now it's all I've got.

Please know I care and that I do understand.

You said it Lady . . .
I always say death is only hard for the living . . .

My heart to yours, in peace.

Loss, we try to define it, maybe helping to fill a little of the hole.  GG, I can't tell you how much I love your pondering mind.  Be well, my friend.

this is so poweful and true that it reaches deep inside of me into the part that gives me involuntary shivers........there is so much we can hide, but death is not something to be hidden under a word such as 'loss'...oh but you say it so much better than I.......very powerful lady....now if only I could stop shaking

Ser,
there isn't a word for it. And it'd be nice if recognising that meant that it didn't seem like such a big deal... but, you know as well as I do, that things like this aren't necessarily rational, they just hurt. Oh well. Sigh. Thank you...

Gentle Spirit,
thankfully for me, this doesn't from a recent loss but from several over a period of time, and finally being able to react to this aspect of the grief. But I certainly wouldn't turn down a hug thank you...

Sue,
I agree completely. And it's so true that a part of us dies when our loved ones die. I was told when I was young that I'd always have an empty mom shaped hole in my heart - I understand now that there are, and will be, several other holes as well. thanks for your words here. Take care...

LeeJ,
I've missed being here to write and to read you and all the other poets as well. The weird thing, sad thing maybe, is that I'm a bit of a hypocrite about this... I use the term when speaking with other's who've faced the death of their loved ones, too. Not because I don't recognise how it can be painful, but because I recognise that any word that's used is painful. Nothing can bring justice to it. Well, thank you so much for your reply, glad I got to see you here again.

Cathy,
My mind wanders and ponders far too often! Guess we all try a lot of things to help try to fill the hole. We gain knowledge and wisdom and other great things from that, I think, but I'm not sure any of it really ever fills the hole. You be well, too. and thank you...

WindWalker,
Thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed it.

Dix,
it's too bad being right doesn't make things better, huh? *sigh* love ya...

jellybeans,
the first time the term loss made me angry was after grandpa died when I was six (I was a strangely cognitive kid). Every death since then, and sadly there have been many, it's made me angry again. After grandma died several days went by before anyone actually would use the word 'death.' I got so anxious, I was afraid nobody got it. It was like nobody ralised the finality of it, like they tried to make it sound okay or common. Rationally I knew that they were trying to be polite I hated it. ...Oh, Lady, I'm sorry that you have to understand this so well. I wish I could make things better. Know that I'm just an email away if you ever need to talk/ complain/ sob/ anything...

Enchantress,
Thanks for taking the time to stop by. I'm really glad the meaning of it came through. Hugs...
