Where no tyranny is tolerable

For the laughter of Midnitesun ...
The reader may wish to read this in the middle of the night,
whether in Liverpool,
or Colombo,
or Melbourne ...

I Pitter Pat ... Yeah, It's Another One
Waking in the middle of the night,
Heating day old coffee in the 'mike,
"Doing" the old 'puter, I sit tight.
I turn her on, and then,
Instead of starting Windows and JAWS
AdAware, Norton Anti Virus
and that funny musical sound it makes
up flashes the message:
Process Disk okay button click here.
I think to myself: What?
What on Earth is it talking about!
I try to talk the 'puter out of it.
I try shift tab.
I try tab shift.
I try control dash delete.
I try turning caps lock on and off,
turning num lock on and off.
I try every combination I can think.
and even try a few I never thought of.
Still, this stupidly
this annoyingly insistent message:
Process disk. okay button.
I see,
it's one of those one way dialogs
that give you just one choice.
There is no way out,
I sigh and click: okay.
Before I can guess what to do next,
a stray disk flies off the table
and pops into the drive all by itself!
Then the 'puter flashes:
processing disk. Please wait ...
I think: Man, this is crazy!
The 'puter makes a hiddious grumping grinding noise.
The drive (I guess that's what it is)
rattles with such force it flies spinning from the box.
It starts dancing on the table,
still making hiddious crunching sounds.
Even the 'puter is sliding
crazily around the table all by itself!
What does it want me to do now?
Please wait? ... ... ... ...
I keep both hands on the machine
to make sure it doesn't fall.
I wonder what this thing,
this spinning object could be doing.
Processing a disk?
It comes to me it is processing a disk
the way a food processor processes food----
tearing it up, chewing it up,
mangling it, plastic cover and all.
I'm afraid to tuch it and make sure,
because it might then process my fingers,
and then I would be unable to read Braille.
and even worse I couldn't type,
and then I would have to SAY poems instead of write them ...
and I don't think they'd allow me
to SAY poems on Passions,
because then nobody could read them ...
since it is a visual medium ...
oooooooh
so my hypothesis can not be verrified.
And then the 'puter,
apparently bent on self-destructing,
suddenly grows hot.
Sounds like everything inside it shorting out.
Then begins to shoot electric sparks.
I run
to check the day old coffee in the mike,
and then wake up.
It was a dream.

SC

No one heard me.
Noone cared.
noone listened to vegetables then,
and Charles was a potato,
an Irish spud, we use to call him behind his back ...

EEK! step away from that eating machine! Laughing here, as I just happened to 'pop-on' to Pips and here you are, making me laugh again, though that was a nightmare!
But seriously, I hope that newer PC is behaving itself. Did you eat a hot spicy Chinese takeout meal the night of this dream?
