Never close enough

I watched him wring his hands together like that of an old dishrag
dishrags I thought, much the way I feel at this minute
used, and tossed aside, as if I am nothing
nothing special
nothing worth loving
nothing worth dying for
just nothing

His eyes worn and worried, a million heartaches flooded the water there
water, I steadied my muse on, flowing, always changing, never in one place long
much like me for the past 30 years
afraid to plant my feet
always fearing
fearing what hasn't happened
fearing the worst that surely will,
because it always has
...and it did

His voice trembled when he spoke, he was imploding from the outside in
I could sit and talk forever on the way walls come down within
mine have fallen billions of times,
ruins there now... peices and places of things I've been
And I too
tremble when I speak, even when I sleep...
just thinking of him

Rock of Gibraltor I called him then, and still do, even in his weakness
you see, he can hold it in for so long
so long that everyone around thinks that he doesn't give a nickle
but, he does
he's just full of stubborn pride
but
even he cried that day

on that cold Thursday in January

Things have changed for us all since then
since then
no one sleeps with both eyes closed
and peace just wont come, even in the darkest hours of the night

You see
no one knows what he and I have walked through
no one knows the fires that have scorched our hearts

No one ever will,
this is ours, and only we can see past this moment
without becoming stuck in the past

He and I,
the rock and the willow

One that sways with the gentlest of movements
and one...
That stands strong for the ones that bend.

Choose to live, and love and all the in betweens.  Dry your eyes, and shelter your heart and let the pendulum swing.

Very nicely done Tima!  Loved the closing lines.

Hugs, life continually changes, we grow through the hard times...this was a poem, I know I'll come back to read, again and again...thank you for sharing....
