The Dark side of Female

Who is this imposter posing as my daughter?
She looks like my sweet girl,
but the dour face and serpent’s tongue
belong to someone else.

This trespasser hides in my daughter’s room
and moves things about.
Last night, I found four blank walls –
wind chimes now quiet on the desk,
a calendar tossed aside as if months didn’t matter,
photographs I’d taken laid face down.

I asked the stranger to come out and talk.
She answered she could not
because she’s useless;
and turned out her light.

Behind another wall,
my room also grew dark.

Oh, did this bring back the age of 15...and the "moody blues" of change...I'm sure my mother wondered the very same, as I did with my own. This is the new time for bonding of a different nature, and I hug her with you...

Corinne...I remember being like this...and boys are that way too...at least mine were.  The good thing about it is, it passes!

Wow.  Believe it or not I feel that poem in so many ways.  A love of mine has the same defense against sadness and rejection.  I just hope that all the lost angels in this world find their way home safely...and I hope she knows that I love her.  Loved this poem...connected on a truly personal level.

hugs corinne. its a confusing and emotional time, trying to find her place while being bombarded my mixed messages and silly peer pressures. don't push, but don't give up. just be there and she should come around.

we can only do the best we know to do, and then there's a time we must allow them...and I believe the hardest time, is when they leave home to pursue their dreams...it is always a temptation to want to protect them.

This was a bittersweet write, and a perfect example of how when they hurt, we hurt as well.

Thank you, hope today is a much better day for both of you

Hugs...

My daughter (16) recently said to me that she had been troubled for a while that something she thought she had understood at age seven had turned out to be completely wrong (the issue is not relevant here).  I asked her why she was now so troubled - that it had been years ago and I pointed out that understandings can change.

She said, "Yes, but I am talking about believing in something for almost half my life."

The young have to focus with this intensity, they have so little in their fields of vision.

...and then, of course their brains are being affected by mind altering hormones.

It is a scary business being young.

Clear, meaningful descriptions of the room gave a great visual to the "dark side."  Enjoyed the write.
